Mechanical engineers use the basic principles of motion, energy, and force to design and manufacture a vast range of products. Mechanical Engineering is a creative profession in which students are trained to conceive, construct, test, and operate all kinds of mechanical, thermal, and automotive devices. Today's mechanical engineers may work on developing thermal systems for manufacturing; develop a prototype of a car; build and test turbojets; design and produce advanced materials for various purposes, such as the mechanical heart valve and fabricate specific components for industrial purposes.

The Mechanical Engineering Program at the POLETECHNIC aims to graduate high-caliber mechanical engineers for a demanding profession. The undergraduate program emphasizes the basic principles of the discipline and educates students in the use of these principles to solve complex engineering problems. Throughout the program, students learn how to design and conduct experiments and to collect, analyze and interpret data via laboratory work and design projects.

During their senior year, students work in teams on design and research projects in order to prepare them for the practical life. Elective area courses in advanced materials, thermal, fluid Mechanics, vibration, Heat transfer, classical applied Mechanics, and ventilation provide a holistic perspective on mechanical engineering. The Mechanical Engineering faculty actively conducts research in the areas of materials processing and materials behavior, fluid and thermal systems, control and vibration, and manufacturing.

Mechanical Engineering department in POLETECHNIC consists of three main branches; thermal and hydraulic machines, general mechanical engineering, and Autotronics.
