About the Department of Special Education

The Department of Special Education was established at Princess Rahma University College in 1980 as the first special education department on the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to provide specialists in special education to meet the needs of the domestic, regional and international market, and as a result of the expansion of the quantitative and qualitative development in the field of special education in the world in general and in Jordan in particular and the attendant of the rapid increase in the need for specialists in special education are able to compete locally, regionally and internationally

In line with the royal directives in the field of development and improve the quality of higher education and in line with the philosophy of higher education and policy of Al-Balaq’ Applied University (BAU) in finding learning outcomes of high quality competition and able to gain the trust of all educational and training and applied institutions locally and territories and internationally the department has 16 faculty members all of whom hold doctoral degrees from the most prestigious Jordanian, Arab and western countries universities, like Australia, Britain in the fields of special education and educational psychology.

Dr. Ayed Al-Ziadat

The department teach special education on two levels; bachelor's degree and diploma and is looking forward in the future to develop more graduate programs specialized in the field of special education. The department looking to establish a diagnostic and early intervention center for disabilities.

As the home of experience and expertise in the field of special education, there are more than 400 students a large proportion of them from Arab countries such as Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates, Palestine and Tunisia.

The department provides support services for students with special needs in the college such as sign language interpreters for the hearing impaired and the allocation of special tracks for people with motor disabilities within the college.

The department also hold seminars, lectures and workshops for the local community and school teachers and employees in special education centers and workers in social work centers around.

The department also provides free counseling services in the field of special education, psychology and counseling for families, schools and special education centers in the region and other parts of the Kingdom and even in other neighboring countries.

The department provides the domestic, regional and international market with a number of graduates whom are qualified professionally, cognitively, research, technologically, mentally and emotionally and skilled in the level of theory and practice to develop and raise the level of learning and teaching process in the field of special education.

To reach a high level of professionalism to compete locally, regionally and internationally as a home of a distinctive experience in special education and prepare professionals able to meet the needs of the field of special education in terms of teaching and training.

Preparing scientists, researchers and practitioners are able to address the local and global educational challenges and provide the highest degree of academic standards in the exercise in the teaching –learning process, research and community service so that they represent a model for others, taking into account new trends in the field of the Jordanian higher education development to build up community knowledge-based.
